What causes penile curvature?
Penile curvature is either inborn (congenital penile curvature – chordee), or acquired penile curvature due to Peyronie’s disease, trauma, intracavernous injections for erectile dysfunction among other causes of acquired penile curvature.

What is the difference between Peyronie’s disease and congenital curvature?
Congenital penile curvature is since birth, is painless, and does not get worse over time. Peyronie’s disease develops at some point in life and gets worse through the first one or two years. It can be associated with pain and a palpable lump. It is commonly associated with erectile dysfunction.
When is surgery recommended?
Surgery is recommended in moderate to severe grades of penile curvature or if there is associated erectile dysfunction not responding to medical treatment. In cases of Peyronie’s disease, it is best to wait till there is no progression, after one or two years from its start.
